David A. Lamkin is founder and owner of Net Sense, a Clinton Township, Mich.-based Web programming and custom software company that provides tailored Web solutions for businesses and entrepreneurs. Lamkin brings more than 25 years experience to his company – experience that began long before entering the professional world.
Lamkin’s computer programming and software development education began at the age of 4, when he spent long hours in the family’s basement with his father building computers. Long before the days of Microsoft Windows and MacOS, programs had to be specifically designed to carry out the functions its users desired; this meant that whatever Lamkin wanted the computer to do, he had to design the program for it. By the third grade, he had successfully written his first program, and when taking his first computer classes in middle school, Lamkin’s teachers had to develop special assignments for him, as his skill level far exceeded that of his peers.
By the time Lamkin was hired at his first job, he was a proficient computer programmer with a keen sense for coding. And although he was hired at a computer repair shop, his tenure there began with sweeping floors. Lamkin worked his way up the ranks, first being promoted to parts ordering and then to warranty processing. Finally, he moved on to another area computer repair shop and was hired as an apprentice for component level computer repair and electronics. Soon after, he was promoted to senior technician, writing a wide range of programs to test computer and printer functionality.
In 1997, Lamkin began working as a computer network engineer, being named a Level 3 senior engineer by Creative Breakthroughs, Inc. He also trained for a variety of industry certifications, including A+ and CCA.
While employed by Clinton Township-based Logicorps as a lead engineer and senior software developer, Lamkin made the decision to start his own business. In 2003, Net Sense was established and began providing premier Web programming and custom software solutions to an array of customers in a variety of industries, including medical and financial. In 2005, Lamkin made the transition to running the company full time.
Throughout his career, Lamkin has become fluent in a variety of programming languages, including: Bash, C, C++, C#, HTML, Java Script, Microsoft SQL, MySQL, .Net, PHP, PostgreSQL, Python, VBS and Visual Basic. He also has programmed a wide range of applications, including asset management systems, order tracking, CRM/ERP, and project/trouble ticketing software.
In addition to his programming experience, Lamkin is extremely proficient in taking sophisticated designs and graphics and coding navigation for sites that require intricate shopping cart functions, extensive security measures and complicated functionality. Moreover, as the Web 2.0 phenomenon gains momentum, Lamkin is ahead of the curve. His programming knowledge and software experience both lend themselves to this movement, allowing Lamkin to provide clients with increasingly creative, innovative and forward-thinking Web solutions.
